Artist Statement
My current work involves mostly larger-than-life portraiture, and it is both confrontational and emotive. With these portraits I aim to evoke an involuntary emotional response from the viewer, while providing a glimpse into my process as an artist with an evolving style. By using a more impressionistic approach in the backgrounds, I attempt to portray the chaotic environment that many people experience today. In contrast, the details of the figures are much more attended to, showing the intense emotions they express. Although I’m still exploring my own process and painterly style, I have a constant urge to make art and I feel it is the most important thing I can do. I am eager to explore different mediums, including fabric and textiles, decoupage, collage, wearable art, and unique portrait styling in the near future.
