Artist Statement
Does my room remember me when I am gone? Or have I spent so much time in that space that my room has become a symbol of my existence? These barrows of memories, of livelihoods, of history, are they displayed for the enjoyment of yourself, or to prove to others and yourself of your existence? Throughout my career as an artist, I have explored just some facets of what these environments could be telling us or how we occupy these spaces.
The pandemic has casted us into a liminal space. Sitting in tombs —festering in places we once put little thought to. Bookshelves filled with keepsakes of memories nearly forgotten. We have been left grasping for a direction to follow while in isolation. Left to our own devices to entertain ourselves. Our reality starts to bend with irregularities that make us question ourselves. Likewise, public space has been vacated. The ebb and flow of stores and restaurants has been halted in time, items left as decorations like a doll house waiting to be used.
